The Moffett Automation system is an automated storage solution designed to maximize efficiency and storage density. It is based on autonomous shuttles known as Moffett Taxis, which travel within racking structures to move pallets or loads between different areas of the warehouse. Using a mesh Wi-Fi network and an intelligent warehouse control software (WCS), the system coordinates shuttle movements in real time, optimizing travel paths, inventory management, and material flow. Compact, modular, and scalable, the Moffett pallet storage system integrates easily with warehouse management systems (WMS/ERP) and can be deployed in a wide range of environments, including cold storage facilities and high-throughput warehouses.

Benefits of integrating Moffett’s automated pallet storage solution

Storage space optimization

Optimize every millimeter of space with ultra-dense storage, increasing capacity by up to four times compared to manual warehouses. Quickly respond to growing demand with this automated system, significantly reducing the need for additional warehouse space investment.

Full automation of material flows

The shuttles automatically handle the transport, storage, and retrieval of pallets without human intervention. This automation reduces errors, lead times, and labor dependency while ensuring near-perfect inventory accuracy.

Reduction of operating costs

Less manual handling means fewer product damages, lower energy consumption (thanks to regenerative braking and opportunistic lithium battery charging), and reduced maintenance requirements. In the long term, this results in a fast return on investment.

Time savings and increased productivity

The system operates continuously, 24/7, with high pallet throughput (up to 1.8 m/s per shuttle). Storage and retrieval cycles are significantly faster, improving overall supply chain flow.

Safety and reliability

Automation reduces risks associated with forklift traffic and improves operator safety. Integrated sensors and real-time software control ensure smooth, collision-free operation.

Adaptability and sustainability

The system is modular and scalable, allowing additional shuttles or structural expansions as the business grows. It is also compatible with specialized environments such as cold storage, contributing to more efficient energy management.

Smart software integration

Moffett’s Warehouse Control System (WCS) integrates seamlessly with existing management systems (WMS, ERP), providing full traceability, automated traffic management, and real-time data for planning and maintenance.

What are the components of a Moffett automated pallet storage system?

Moffett Taxi

Thanks to its particularly ingenious design, the Taxi™ offers multi-directional movement and can handle pallets weighing up to 1,500 kg at speeds of up to 1.2 m/s. Communication between units is carried out via a mesh Wi-Fi network. One of the system’s key strengths lies in the ability of each module to handle any pallet and place it in any storage location, optimizing accessibility and overall throughput. Operation is powered by a 100 Ah lithium battery, enabling automatic opportunistic recharging whenever possible.

Moffett VTU

To enable each Taxi™ to reach any level and access every storage location, Moffett VTU™ units are integrated into the system. Designed to handle loads of up to 2,000 kg, these units are installed in sufficient numbers to meet capacity and throughput requirements. The VTUs are not limited by a specific lifting height, allowing them to be installed in warehouses of virtually any height, up to a maximum of 40 meters.

Moffett Conveyor

To simplify the inbound and outbound flow of pallets within the storage system, custom-designed conveyor modules are developed according to the customer’s specific requirements. These units can also be adapted to integrate seamlessly with existing processes in the facility, such as AGVs or current conveyor networks.

Moffett Racking

Moffett Automation has developed interconnected racking structures specifically adapted to the dimensions of the pallets used, ensuring maximum storage density. These racking systems are designed and installed with high precision, using strict tolerances to achieve perfect accuracy and optimal utilization of the available space.

Moffett WCS

The Moffett WCS™ (Warehouse Control System) connects directly to the existing WMS (Warehouse Management System) to manage inventory and pallet movements. It also provides a supervisory interface that allows real-time visualization of storage capacity and inventory levels. Thanks to the expertise of our in-house IT team, seamless integration with any ERP or warehouse management system is fully supported.

Other Options

Moffett automation picking tunnels

It is possible to integrate picking tunnels and picking stations into any automated storage system. Operators can retrieve products directly from the pallets without having to fully extract them. These picking stations can be customized to meet the company’s specific requirements, and automatic replenishment can be implemented to automatically replace pallets once they have been emptied.

Pallet buffering

We are able to set up buffer zones around inbound and outbound points to facilitate pallet handling. In practice, pallets can first be directed to an area located near the inbound conveyor, allowing large volumes to be absorbed during peak activity periods, and then redistributed to their storage locations once traffic decreases. On the outbound side, prepared orders are grouped near the shipping point ahead of peak periods, significantly accelerating the dispatch process.

How can MSK Canada assist you with Moffett automation pallet storage solutions?

At MSK Canada, our mission is to guide you toward the most effective pallet storage solution for your operations, without bias toward any specific manufacturer. While the Moffett system is one of the options we offer, our priority is to fully understand your actual needs in order to recommend the most relevant technology. We focus on solutions that maximize performance and efficiency, rather than those that are simply the most expensive or the most complex.
