PUSH BACK RACKING

- Increase in storage density
- Forklifts do not have to enter the aisles
- High quantity of identical products (high quantity per SKU)
- Medium to high SKU count
Push back racking is a storage system that maximizes the density of the storage space available in a warehouse. The racking system uses sloped rails on which mobile carts are installed. When picking the first palette on the front, the following slides automatically downwards by gravity, ready to be picked up later.
How does the push-back pallet rack work?
When loading a push back racking, a first palette is placed on the first available cart. To load the second palette, it must be aligned with the first to push it back, exposing the next cart on which the second palette will be positioned. The process is repeated until the row is full. To empty the row, the operator picks up the first palette on the front and the others slide downwards thanks to the mobile carts.
What are the advantages of the reverse-gravity or push-back pallet rack?
Increased storage density
Compared with a single or double deep racking, push back racking frequently offers three or four pallet positions deep. This dramatically increases density and allows more items to be stored in the same space. For example, compared to a single deep racking, we can expect space saving of up to 40%.
Improved product selectivity
Compared to drive-in racking, which dedicates an entire aisle to one SKU, push back racking offers more pick face and therefore allows a greater SKU count.
Operational efficiency
Compared to drive-in racking, forklifts do not need to enter the racking aisles in a push back configuration. This type of maneuver requires a lot of attention, slows down the flow of activity and increases the risk of damage to the racking.

How do you know if a reverse-gravity pallet rack is right for your operations?
There are several factors to consider when configuring an efficient and safe push back racking system:
- Type of mobile cart to use and their characteristics
- Quality of the pallets used
- The configuration of the pallet racking system must be adapted to the push back application
Our team can carry out a complete audit, which will analyze your products, your operations and your storage space. It’s possible that another racking system is better suited to your application. After the audit, we will be able to submit the best recommendation. Click here to launch your project.
