Customer profile

Let’s make this clear; while their breathtaking new building impresses potential buyers of forklift and scissor lift, it’s their parts and service department that are the real stars of the new head office of the company from Ste-Julie, QC. At almost 16 000 square feet, the new service department is home to 6 work bays, one washing bay and one painting bay. A total of 5 mechanics and 3 road technicians works full time on two shifts. To support the technical team, two employees run the parts department that’s been completely revamped with the new building.

Objective : Maximizing Inventory and The Organization of Parts.

In every dealership or maintenance workshop, profits are closely linked to the parts inventory. Therefore, maximizing the amount of SKU in stock was one of the goals of Accès Location+. S’ajoutent aussi les heures non productives des mécaniciens alors qu’ils attendent leurs commandes au comptoir. Like in most cases, an in-deep analysis can greatly improve profits.

The 5S Method

Developed decades ago by Toyota, the 5S method is a proven way to boost productivity by identifying and eliminating waste. Today, it’s widely recognized as the most effective first step toward fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The Solution : Mobile Shelving

On a new construction project, every square foot counts. Accès Location+ understood that and made sure to maximize the use of space. To achieve it, MSK Canada equipped the brand-new parts department with a mobile shelving system from Canadian manufacturer Mizer. Mobile shelving eliminates circulation lane usually required between shelving aisles by installing the units on mobile carriage, allowing them to be tightly grouped when unused. The parts clerk can then access the compacted shelving by rolling the wheel to move the carriage.

Undeniable Results

This amount of shelving would normally require a 24-foot-long space considering 36″ wide circulation aisles. Thanks to the mobile shelving system, Accès Location+ has the same storage capacity in only 15′ – 40% less space! An efficient part localization keeping fast movers close to the desk limit the time spent moving the carriage. The result is an optimized space usage and a high-productivity parts department.

We could never have stored so many parts in such a small space without the mobile shelving system.
