Flow Rail vs Push Back : Which one should you choose to optimize the space of your warehouse?

Par MSK Canada dans Racking

The Flow-Rail is a high-density storage system that can be used with regular forklift trucks.

It is a "last in, first out" system that can store up to 10 pallets in depth without any slope or engine.

How does it works ?

Flow Rail works with a system of chains that slide on aluminum rails. The first pallet is loaded on the rails and then the second pallet pushes against the first which turns the chains. The following pallets are loaded in the same way. When the pallets are unloaded, the chains slide in the opposite direction. When the front pallet comes out of the system, the following ones automatically advance.

One of the traditional alternative to Flow Rail is Push Back. It is a shelving system that contains a pair of inclined rails. When the operator arrives with the second pallet, he pushes the first pallet and places the second on the central carriage. When unloading the rack, the sequence is reversed. The rails are inclined towards the aisle, so when the operator takes the pallet resting on the rails and moves back, the remaining pallets follow. They can then remove each pallet successively, until the track is empty.

The 2 main advantages of Flow-rail

It is obvious that these two systems are strongly similar. But then, why should you choose the Flow Rail rather than the Push Back?

# 1 Space optimization:

  • The Flow Rail can store up to 10 pallets against 6 for the Push-Back.
  • No inclination and therefore a maximization of the vertical space. An entire storage level must sometimes be sacrificed because of the rail angle of the storage.
  • Rail of only 3.5 "h: low profile that does not affect the available height.
  • Allows double stacking (can support a load of 3000+ lb).
  • No special beam required (simply add Flow-Rail to existing rack).

# 2 Eliminate product damage:

  • The merchandise may be damaged due to excessive pressure of the Push-Back angle.
  • The goods are all the time horizontally, contrary to the inclination of the Push-Back system, thus avoiding the risk of falling or skidding.
