The Pan Carousel is an automated vertical storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) that improves productivity, saves space, and uses sound ergonomic principles to increase safety. Robust carriers (shelves) rotate up and down to deliver items to the operator at a comfortable height. Each carrier nests tightly with the one above and below for maximum use of the cubic space within the carousel. The Pan Carousel is built in order to fully utilize overhead space, freeing up valuable square footage that can be used for other purposes. Vidir’s carousels are programmed to rotate the shortest possible travel time to retrieve either a single item or an entire pick list, increasing picking speeds by up to two-thirds. When to choose a pan carousel?
Of all the vertical storage systems, the pan carousel is an excellent choice. Simple and robust, it will allow you to recover up to 70% of your floor space compared to traditional storage systems. But how do you know if the pan carousel is the best equipment for your application? Here are some key points:
The pan carousel is ideal for lighter items of uniform size
If your items are all similar in size, such as parts stored in cardboard or plastic boxes, the pan carousel will be an excellent choice. With a height ranging from 12” to 18”, the tops can be configured with optional separators and dividers to maximize space. Lighter weight and ideal weight distribution is also important to consider to prevent imbalance in the carrier.
Security and access are optimized
One of the advantages of a pan carousel is that it offers a manual rotation system in the event of a system or power failure. This ensures you have access to your parts at all times, avoiding unproductive downtime.
You have a limited height
In terms of space utilization, a carousel will be ideal at 18′ high or less. If the location where you are considering installing the carousel offers more space, other vertical storage systems could be even more advantageous, such as a vertical lift module (VLM).
Where to install a tray carousel?
Considering its relatively small footprint, it makes sense to install the pan carousel as close as possible to assembly or packaging workstations. In addition to speeding up the time to locate parts, the time spent walking through aisles of shelving or racking will be eliminated.
