To effectively meet this expansion, the company had to adjust its strategies in terms of supply chain management, warehouse space optimization, and operational efficiency improvement.  These adaptations were crucial to ensure the company\u2019s ability to support its growth while maintaining service excellence.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"block-wrap-block_594d9a9620f24d9178ba25d99209cf13\" class=\"block-wrap  msk-mt-none msk-mb-normal msk-pt-none msk-pb-none msk-block sz-normal\" style=\"\">\n\t<div class=\"super-grid \">\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"wrap-content\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<div id=\"element-h2-block_e65707085426d04ae0108a4724b34018\" class=\"element-h2 msk-block alignnone  msk-mt-none  msk-mb-none has-noir-text-color\">\r\n    <h2 class=\"sz-small\">First Challenge: Eliminating External Logistics Costs\n<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n<div id=\"element-wysiwyg-block_6124818ea76d50ea1f3edd0deaa56836\" class=\"element-wysiwyg msk-block alignnone\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wys_content\" >\r\n\t\t<p>As previously mentioned, the company was experiencing rapid growth, requiring more space to store its finished products. Massilly was using a third-party logistics company, which incurred additional costs for transportation, handling, logistics, and storage. Massilly aimed to reduce or even eliminate these various costs. Massilly&#8217;s aim was to establish approximately 4000 additional pallet spaces, facilitating the relocation of their entire inventory from an external logistics provider and accommodating their expanding needs.   <\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"block-wrap-block_594d9a9620f24d9178ba25d99209cf13\" class=\"block-wrap  msk-mt-none msk-mb-normal msk-pt-none msk-pb-none msk-block sz-normal\" style=\"\">\n\t<div class=\"super-grid \">\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"wrap-content\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<div id=\"element-h2-block_8f6f2bacd5ae172132199064339c1da5\" class=\"element-h2 msk-block alignnone  msk-mt-none  msk-mb-none has-noir-text-color\">\r\n    <h2 class=\"sz-small\">Solution\n<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n<div id=\"element-wysiwyg-block_b1c6defa157f746c034438094f0aa4a5\" class=\"element-wysiwyg msk-block alignnone\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wys_content\" >\r\n\t\t<p>Massilly thus decided to expand their current manufacturing plant in Brantford. Following a recommendation from an equipment supplier, Massilly contacted MSK Canada to design a pallet racking system adapted to their needs. The company\u2019s land allowed them to expand by approximately 50,000 square feet and to a height of 45 feet, which they did. After numerous analyses of the plans, the final configuration proposed by MSK Canada was as follows: a configuration of 20 rows of double-deep racking system positioned back-to-back. The pallet racks are also designed to reach the maximum height of the building while retaining the necessary dead zone of the autonomous forklifts (AGV) to be used in the warehouse.    <\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"block-evidence-block_3c8371af8d67d4d17ed2f7cb28b919f5\" class=\"block-evidence  msk-mt-none msk-mb-normal msk-pt-none msk-pb-none msk-block\" style=\"\">\n\t<div class=\"evid-wrap\">\n\t\t<div class=\"evid-content\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<div id=\"element-wysiwyg-block_ed5004c2886a70685f47b5bbacebe68a\" class=\"element-wysiwyg msk-block alignnone\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wys_content\" >\r\n\t\t<p>To maximize available height, the building\u2019s beams are inserted inside the pallet racks, allowing materials to be stored as close to them as possible. MSK Canada had to take into account the client&#8217;s demands and expectations regarding the automated system as well as the specific characteristics of the forklifts. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Characteristics required for the implementation of automated forklifts:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Automated forklifts require triangular markers on the front of the uprights to navigate the aisles and during pallet handling.<\/li>\n<li>The cameras of automated forklifts guide themselves based on the uprights and beams. Therefore, when the automated forklift handles a load, it must lift the pallet 16 inches higher than the height of the beam, or the material will be stored. <\/li>\n<li>The minimum space between the top of the pallet and the underside of the upper beam must be at least 6 inches for handling.<\/li>\n<li>Aisle width must be a minimum of 140 inches for automated forklifts to operate at their maximum speed.<\/li>\n<li>Automated forklifts require a space of 8 inches between the sides of the uprights and the side of the pallet. This dimension also applies to any other component that may interfere with pallet handling. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"block-wrap-block_594d9a9620f24d9178ba25d99209cf13\" class=\"block-wrap  msk-mt-none msk-mb-normal msk-pt-none msk-pb-none msk-block sz-normal\" style=\"\">\n\t<div class=\"super-grid \">\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"wrap-content\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<div id=\"element-h2-block_8f6f2bacd5ae172132199064339c1da5\" class=\"element-h2 msk-block alignnone  msk-mt-none  msk-mb-none has-noir-text-color\">\r\n    <h2 class=\"sz-small\">Solution\n<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n<div id=\"element-wysiwyg-block_9153593bb7bf24410b3d1bf3dc6bd610\" class=\"element-wysiwyg msk-block alignnone\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wys_content\" >\r\n\t\t<p>For this project, Wajax was chosen for the supply and maintenance of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and traditional forklifts. AGVs offer several advantages for the company, including cost reduction, effective integration with existing systems, reduced delays and downtime, optimization of storage space, and warehouse safety. The MSK Canada and Wajax teams worked together to design a storage system that meets the requirements of the AGVs.   <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Cost Reduction<\/h3>\n<p>Automating handling reduces the need for labour and thus decreases logistics costs. The new warehouse aims to optimize space by stacking pallets over 35 feet high, a demanding task that requires skilled labour. AGVs are ideal for this operation due to their high precision. Their use avoids accidental collisions with racks, reducing repair and maintenance expenses.   <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Integration With Existing Systems<\/h3>\n<p>Integrating automated forklifts with existing warehouse management systems simplifies their deployment without significantly disrupting ongoing operations. They also offer the ability to monitor warehouse stock levels in real time. Numerous data points can be analyzed and leveraged for even more precise process management.  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Reduction of Delays and Downtime<\/h3>\n<p>Automated forklifts are aware of available locations in the warehouse as well as the most efficient routes to reach them. This results in reduced lead times and accelerated handling processes. Additionally, automated forklifts offer constant monitoring, simplifying preventive maintenance and extending equipment durability.  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Space efficiency<\/h3>\n<p>Thanks to algorithms, automated forklifts can select and store materials autonomously, without human intervention needed. They can analyze trends and optimize stock organization to minimize movements. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Safety of the Premises<\/h3>\n<p>Conventional high-reach forklifts entail various risks, including operator ejection, crushing hazards for pedestrians, and overturning of the forklift. Collisions with pallet racks can also be fatal for operators. Automated forklifts provide an effective solution to significantly mitigate these risks.  <\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"block-wrap-block_594d9a9620f24d9178ba25d99209cf13\" class=\"block-wrap  msk-mt-none msk-mb-normal msk-pt-none msk-pb-none msk-block sz-normal\" style=\"\">\n\t<div class=\"super-grid \">\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"wrap-content\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<div id=\"element-h2-block_389d80b47e07169958608fff237551e9\" class=\"element-h2 msk-block alignnone  msk-mt-none  msk-mb-none has-noir-text-color\">\r\n    <h2 class=\"sz-small\">Final situation\n<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n<div id=\"element-wysiwyg-block_a5be1b063b5df7d441062b51f92c1c0e\" class=\"element-wysiwyg msk-block alignnone\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wys_content\" >\r\n\t\t<p>The results of the project are satisfactory, and the client expresses satisfaction with the work done. The client&#8217;s expectations have been exceeded, and on September 6, 2023, the warehouse was officially opened. With a total of over 4,400 pallet locations, the warehouse surpasses the initial target by over 10%.  <\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"side-part \"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\r\n<div id=\"element-quote-block_8c3a55ec86caebe0cf79d9576484b20b\" class=\"element-quote msk-block alignwide\">\r\n    <blockquote>\r\n       We\u2019re in the business of food preservation and waste reduction. That means we don\u2019t usually do engineering or construction, or any of the other activities related to automation or warehouse installations and equipment like this. It\u2019s not our core business, which is why we wanted to bring together this rather small but very dedicated group of people who helped us build this warehouse because it\u2019s not something we do every day. Everyone here had a direct impact on making this happen.
